Games in the exam classroom can and should go beyond snakes and ladders, tic-tac-toe and pelmanism! And they shouldn’t take ages to make. Using the well-known yet forgotten classic board games from the attic, we will explore the simple and practical ways of adapting them -or using them as they are! -to boost our students' vocabulary.
We will try to turn the virtual room into a real playground, welcoming anyone who would like to explore ways of bringing greater fun, engagement and learning into the exam classroom. While the onus will remain on achieving a real game outcome, exam topics and functional language will still be used extensively (and naturally) as the tools to complete various tasks and to enhance the students’ productive skills in line with the requirements and criteria of Cambridge and IELTS speaking and writing specifications.
